WISH: Workshop on International Social Housing

Description
The workshop is intended as a phase of experimentation and research into the theme of collective living and its social implications. The research aims to combine design with the principles of economy and seriality typical of large-scale architectural projects, in the belief that through a coherent urban design we can positively contribute to enriching the fabric of the city. Designing collective housing often means dealing with the almost systematic lack of urban systems capable of defining public places. The modulation of the primary ‘topoi’ of the urban environment (streets, squares, public gardens) through the design of large urban portions represents, in our opinion, an essential aspect and constitutes the background that connects the past WISH editions with future ones. www.wish.usi.ch
Objectives
Among the many objectives of WISH we can highlight: the promotion of cultural exchanges between students from different backgrounds through by engaging with concrete issues and the real needs of society; the greater awareness in students of Social Housing as a possible professional opportunity; making a contribution to the improvement of the urban and architectural qualities of Social Housing by developing concrete projects in collaboration with the local authorities responsible for it; making a contribution to the academic, political and professional debate on Social Housing; promoting an exchange of skills between institutions (administrations, universities, international operators, the private sector); promoting partnerships and international contacts between universities, teachers and students.
