Project I: Atelier Pedrozzi

In line with an established course of research, the studio will continue to examine the Ticino region in its ‘transversal’ dimension, questioning and highlighting the multiple relationships that structure the canton's territory. This reflection will be intertwined with the development of architectural and territorial strategies aimed at enhancing the river axis of the city of Lugano, whose administration will indicate the sites of interest that surround it, and on which the students will be planning. Through an approach freed from the preliminary assignment of roles and functions for the sites, topics related to reuse, landscape and construction will be explored in detail, so allowing students to actively and collectively propose their vision of the transversal development of the city and its architecture. With the aim of enriching the personal experience of the members of our Atelier, without necessarily constraining us to the project subjects they will be pursuing, a study trip of several days will be dedicated to the visit of some of the finest examples of theatre and staging spaces in northern Italy.

The Atelier aims to stimulate and increase the participation of each student in the design process and in the critical reflection of the entire group; to do this, moments of confrontation will be encouraged, in which each project will become part of a broader and more dialectical discussion, which will also see the involvement of external guests from different disciplines, starting from the confrontation with the local administrative sector. The research will be introduced by a collective building site experience and an individual workshop over the course of a month. The Atelier projects will be instead developed in pairs.
