Enterprise Resource Planning

Description

The objective of this course is to provide a functional map of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems to enable the student to understand if ERP technology could be applied to a given business context and, if yes, which specific modules could produce tangible impact on business performance. The course explains how information systems have evolved over time and how ERPs represent the result of a continuous and still ongoing functional integration process. A review of the literature of the information perspective of organizational theory provides a framework to understand the organizational change caused by ERP projects. Then, the course discusses the core functional areas of ERP systems - Marketing and Sales, Supply Chain Management, Accounting and Finance, Human Resources - and their respective core business processes. Extended functionalities and current trends complement the course. Classes are based on lectures, case studies and presentations of assignments.
