Description
Starting from a reflection on the idea of landscape viewed from different viewpoints (philosophy, geography, art, architecture, landscape architecture), and the study of some significant topics (the difference between nature and landscape, landscape as image, as system, as tectonic construction and as space), the course analyses the phenomena that generate landscape, its natural tectonics (geology, climate, hydrology, erosion, sedimentation, biology, ecology), landscape as construction and as culture. The course will be illustrated by various examples: from the proto-landscapes of prehistory to post-industrial and global landscapes; memory and symbolic value in landscape; landscape as vernacular construction and cultural product; landscape architecture.
