Master thesis preparation
The supervisor defines the tasks to be accomplished and establishes the dates of start and end of the work within the semester. If a thesis preparation project is conducted at an institution or company outside USI, an authorized lecturer of USI must take responsibility as in-house supervisor. An authorized lecturer is a USI professor from the Faculty of Informatics who is teaching a MCS course in the current academic year.
A Master Thesis Preparation in MCS should be a computational and application oriented work in a research group at USI in order to deepen the knowledge in an area in computational science. It should require about 180 hours and 6 ECTS are obtained for a 15 page summary report.
The Master Thesis Preparation takes a maximum of 3 months, which is a strict deadline for its completion by the end of the teaching period until December 23. It should be followed by a Master thesis and should train students for independent work on a particular topic.
Master Thesis Preparation is graded pass/fail.
