Description

The Workshop includes lectures and site visits with experts during which participants will be invited to reflect on the issues inherent in the “practices” of the museum today. Introduced by public conferences by experts, it will be organized in interconnected modules with a focus on the case of Rome, its museums, archaeological sites and the peculiarities of a complex system called to deal with the challenges of contemporaneity.

Objectives

The Workshop aims to provide an introduction to the practices of museum curation and exhibition space. In particular, it intends to provide the tools for understanding a "system", that of the management, organization and design of a museum space and an exhibition that is based on the dialogue between curator/conservator and architect.

The Workshop includes seminars on specific cases in dialogue with the city's institutions, professionals - from conservators and curators, to restorers, museographers - and intends in particular to discuss some themes at the center of the contemporary debate regarding the relationship between conservation and fruition of permanent collections, the reconfiguration of historical narrative paths, as well as issues related to sustainability and accessibility, with an eye also on emerging proposals in the field of contemporary curation and the use of virtual and digital in installations.

Examination information

Organized into work groups (max 5 each), students will work in the field with teachers and experts on specific cases, circumscribing a theme and analyzing it through tools such as sketches, photographic documentation or even the drafting of a short historical-critical text. The delivery of the works will be later, during the exam session.
