Biography
Ko Tsuruta is an architect and researcher with a strong interest in the digital re-interpretation of existing materials and technology.
Since 2023, He has joined Fabrication and Material Aware Architecture (FMAA) at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio at Università della Svizzera italiana (AAM-USI), as a PhD researcher, and also the NCCR Digital Fabrication within the focus topic “Digital Concrete: Rehabilitation and Repair”
From 2021 to 2022, he worked at Gramazio Kohler Research (ETH Zurich), where he supported the teaching program of the Master of Advanced Studies ETH in Architecture and Digital Fabrication (MAS ETH DFAB) as a tutor. Previously, he received Bachelor and Master of Fine Art from the Tokyo University of the Arts, with honours, and graduated from MAS ETH DFAB.
His previous work and research have been recognized in many competitions including the Institute of Environmental Art and Design (IEAD) Best Presentation Award 2023, the Architectural Informatics Society (AIS) Best Student Award 2021, BVLGARI MECENATE, COMITE COLBERT AWARD 2019 -Reiwa: New Generation-, and SD Review 2019.
