Arianna Baggiolini


Arianna Baggiolini completed her BSc and MSc in Biology at the ETH in Zurich and her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Zurich in the laboratory of Dr. Lukas Sommer. In 2017, Baggiolini moved to New York to work as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Lorenz Studer at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Baggiolini was selected as HHMI Leading Edge Fellow and MSKCC Gerry fellow, and she obtained several awards including the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) Merit Award and the Tri-I Breakout Prize. In September 2022, Baggiolini started her own independent research group at the Institute of Oncology Research (IOR) at BIOS+. During this time, Baggiolini obtained the Christopher J. Marshall Award from the Society for Melanoma Research, the SNSF Starting grant and she was appointed Assistant Professor at USI. In 2024 she was endowed with the prestigious Hofschneider Professorship by the Experimental Biomedicine Foundation. Some of her major contributions include the definition of oncogenic competence in melanoma and the role played by developmental chromatin factors during tumor initiation and during cellular maturation in development.
