Biography

Dr Merlo is Lecturer in Marketing at the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and Fellow of St Edmund´s College, Cambridge. Previously he was Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Melbourne in Australia, and senior member of Ormond College and Queen´s College.
Dr Merlo holds degrees in Political Science and Economics & Commerce, and a postgraduate degree in Business Strategy. He was awarded his Ph.D. in Marketing Strategy from the University of Melbourne. His main research interests include marketing´s role and contributions to business strategy, marketing-related decision making, marketing metrics, and services marketing. His latest research has appeared in the Journal of Business Research, Marketing Theory and the Journal of Strategic Marketing. Dr Merlo has won several awards and grants for his research, including an American Marketing Association Best Paper Award, a European Union Award for Excellence, and a major grant for research in association with Columbia University and McKinsey & Company. He is a frequent speaker at international conferences, and regularly acts as journal reviewer, conference reviewer, and conference chair.
Dr Merlo is also active in management education and training and acts as Programme Director for a number of senior management programmes offered by Cambridge University Executive Education. Previously, Dr Merlo was also Executive Educator for MUP School of Enterprise, for which he ran numerous sessions for corporate clients throughout Asia and Australia. Dr Merlo was Senior Associate of Chant Link & Associates, a specialist marketing strategy and research consulting company. He has worked in a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, oil, food and beverage, tourism, and postal services among others.
Dr Merlo is a member of the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS), the American Marketing Association (AMA), the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and the Academy of Marketing (AM).
