Corporate philanthropy’s role and position in corporate responsibility activities remains controversial: corporate examples show that it can be part of CSR, as well as an extra activity within the realm of corporate responsibilities. In this project we analyse the link between the two: by combining the (traditional) CSR pyramid (Carroll 1991) and the triple bottom line approach (Elkington 1998) we aim to show that corporate philanthropy has a new role outside of the classical CSR concept, that can be substantiated also by recent theoretical developments in the field of CSR. The project aims as developing four fundaments of corporate philanthropy - economic, motivational, creative, and moral – illustrating the importance and outstanding role of corporate philanthropy for today’s businesses.
