Abstract
This article studies "Piumadoro e Piombofino", a fairy tale by Guido Gozzano, and attempts to trace its fortunate intermedial life during the 20th century and to understand the readings of the text given by visual interpretations. It proceeds through an iconotextual analysis of the different versions of the fairy tale, which had many illustrators in the successive editions. The overview proposed intends to show the visual divergences and convergences that have determined, in accordance with the respective publishing contexts, the survival of Gozzano’s text and the prevalence of certain readings of the text rather than others.
