Description
This course provides an overview of key issues related to the digital transition of news media, in Switzerland and internationally. Each session focuses on a specific theme and links major research contributions with examples drawn from news media practices.
Topics include (among others):
• Digital transformation of newsrooms and organisational models
• Audience relationships and engagement strategies
• Relationships with digital platforms
• Information practices and the challenges news literacy
Objectives
• Identify key research in digital journalism and media studies
• Conceptualise the challenges faced by news organisations in the digital age
• Explain the current state of the journalistic field in relation to digitalisation

The course combines lectures, group work, and student presentations.
Examination information
The final grade is composed of 70% from the final written exam (covering assigned readings and course materials) and 30% from group work.
