Biography

Peter Gruber has a PhD in Particle Physics from TU Wien and was a CERN fellow before obtaining an MA in Quantitative Finance from St. Gallen (HSG) and a second PhD in Financial Economics from the Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI). He joined USI in 2008. His research interests include applications of generative AI, economics of volatility, econometrics with non-standard data sets, data visualisation and entrepreneurship. He currently serves as academic director of the Master in Financial Technology and Computing and member of the AI working group at USI. 

Dr. Gruber has been teaching statistics, financial econometrics and numerical methods with Python, R and MATLAB since 2005 at USI, University of St. Gallen, University of Geneva and Bocconi. In the short history of ChatGPT, Dr. Gruber has led seminars for thousands of researchers from around the globe on the competent use of large language models, including at the Royal Statistical Society, the Bank of Portugal, Georgetown University, City St George’s University of London, University of St. Gallen, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, and Instats.
