The main research areas are health and public economics, with a particular focus on regulation and policy aspects, through the application of econometric methods. Past research devoted considerable attention to the investigation of primary care markets and patient choice of practice, the economics of antibiotics and bacterial resistance with the study of determinants of consumption, spillover effects, dispensing practices, habit and rational behavior, and intervention policies. More recently, the main areas of interest moved to efficiency and regulatory aspects of long-term care, the use of antidepressant drugs and the link with mental health, the economic effects of earthquakes and the effects of air pollution and environmental shocks on health.
