Laura Quadri

Laura Quadri is currently a Post-Doc Researcher affiliated with the Faculty of Theology of Lugano, with the Research Project "The Most Devout Epistles of St. Catherine of Siena in the Edition of Aldo Manuzio (1500)".

Previously, she obtained a PhD in Italian Language, Literature and Civilization at the Institute of Italian Studies at USI with a thesis on a rare seventeenth-century edition of the Ecstasies of St. Mary Magdalene de' Pazzi, published by Olschki: "Un amore conoscitivo". La tradizione della Vita di S. Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi tra Sei e Settecento.

She began her academic career in 2013, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Italian Literature and Linguistics and Religious Sciences at the University of Zurich (UZH); in 2015, a Master of Arts in Canon and Comparative Ecclesiastical Law at the Faculty of Theology in Lugano; in 2018, a licentiate de iure canonico at the Faculty of Canon Law San Pio X in Venice; in the same year, she obtained a Master of Arts in Italian Language, Literature and Civilization at the Università della Svizzera italiana. Her Master's thesis was also published by Olschki in 2020: Una fabula mystica nel Seicento italiano: Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi e le Estasi (1609-1611).  

Her research interests include Baroque mysticism and the reception of the Magdalenian Ecstasies in Italy and Europe in the 17th-18th centuries and, more generally, female mystical writings. She has studied the work of Father Giovanni Pozzi in the 20th century, editing the book Per Padre Pozzi. Studi in memoria di Giovanni Pozzi nel centenario della nascita, Dadò, 2024.

Quadri is also editor of the “Rivista di Storia e Letteratura Religiosa”; Vice President of the Dante Alighieri Society of Locarno and publicist at Communicatio Ecclesiae (ComEc), on behalf of the Diocese of Lugano. From 2020 to 2022, she received the Cantonal Research Grant, for the category "Emerging Researchers".

Lo scopo del Progetto, accolto dalla Facoltà di Teologia di Lugano, è lo studio delle Epistole Devotissime de Sancta Catharina da Siena […] essendo state adunate insieme […] per il venerabile frate Bartholomeo da Alzano da Bergamo, edizione realizzata dall’editore umanista Aldo Manuzio nel 1500. La pubblicazione, che incarna il significato pubblico e politico assunto proprio a Venezia dal culto cateriniano all’inizio del Quattrocento, contribuì in modo decisivo alla conoscenza di Santa Caterina da Siena e rimase l'edizione di riferimento fino al Settecento.

Si può ipotizzare che i movimenti di riforma ecclesiali tra Quattro- e Cinquecento, culminati con il Concilio tridentino, siano stati ispirati anche da Santa Caterina e dall’edizione Manuzio; l’obiettivo dell’indagine potrà essere quello di mettere in evidenza tale aspetto. Lo studio dei testi cateriniani potrebbe così introdurre lo studioso «in uno degli ambienti più importanti del discusso periodo di snodo fra il Quattro e il Cinquecento, collegabile all’avvio della riforma ecclesiastica che di lì a breve avrebbe portato alla grande stagione luterana, calvinista e tridentina.
