Biography
Prof. Rico Maggi (1951) is full professor at USI Università della Svizzera italiana and has been Dean of the USI Faculty of Economics from 2009 until 2013. He teaches Microeconomics and Economics of Tourism at USI. Prof. Rico Maggi is Director of the Institute for Economic Research (IRE), where his research interests focus on transport, tourism, urban and regional development.
Prof. Rico Maggi is the Scientific Director of the multidisciplinary USI Master in International Tourism, which he founded in 2003. The USI Master in International Tourism is an interfaculty Master degree offered by the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society. The USI Master in International Tourism grants two Minor titles, the Minor in eTourism and the Minor in Sustainable Management, and is entirely taught in English.
Prof. Rico Maggi is the former president of the Swiss Association for Transport Research (SVWG), was member of the board of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) and of the Marcel Benoist’s Foundation. He is author of many articles published in international academic journals. He serves regularly as a referee for international academic journals, such as Tourism Review, Tourism Economics, Tourism Analysis, and The Energy Journal. His latest books are “Verkehrt – Plädoyer für eine nachhaltige Verkehrspolitik“ (2010, Avenir Suisse), “Zurigo Lugano Milano“ (2016, Armando Dadò editore) and “Il Ticino: Un’economia locale e globale“ (2018, Armando Dadò editore).
