Biography

Dr Maddalena Fiordelli is a Senior Researcher and Lecturer at the Institute of Public Health of the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). Her research focuses on health communication, community-based participatory research, multi-stakeholder communication, social isolation, informal caregiving, and the role of digital health in improving health services and outcomes.

Since January 2025, she has been leading the CoPeC project at USI. She also coordinated the project Free from Fear(Liberi dalle paure), funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) under the Agora programme and concluded in December 2025. The project aimed to reframe societal perceptions of dementia through the perspectives of informal caregivers, fostering more empathetic and inclusive understandings of their lived experiences. She is currently involved in the design and launch of the new Master in Health, Major in Digital Public Health, starting in the academic year 2026/27.

She supervises PhD students in public health and teaches at both Bachelor’s and Master’s levels. Previously, she worked as a Senior Researcher at Swiss Paraplegic Research (2018–2021) and at the University of Lucerne (2021–2023). During her PhD, she was awarded an SNSF fellowship and spent a research period as a visiting researcher at the University of Amsterdam (2007–2008). From 2019 to 2024, she served as Treasurer of EACH – International Association for Communication in Healthcare.
