Biography

Gianmaria Zamagni (Rimini, 1974) is a private lecturer in History of Religion (PD Dr Phil Habil) at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main. From 2009 he was researcher and later project coordinator at the Cluster of Excellence Religion and Politics at the University of Münster, on the topic of the legitimisation of violence in the Spanish Civil War. Subsequently, he was Scientific Coordinator of the international project Vatican II. Legacy and Mandate, directed by Joachim Schmiedl ISch †. He has collaborated or collaborates with various universities (Institut für Theologie und Sozialethik of the TU Darmstadt, Universität Bielefeld, University of Bologna) and higher education institutions, including the CIEE (Berlin) and the Berlin Bilingual School. He also holds a graduate diploma in theology from Vinzenz Pallotti University (Vallendar, Germany).

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Collegio San Carlo in Modena.

He is correspondent (from Germany) of CRID (Interdepartmental Research Centre on Discrimination and Vulnerability) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Research

Gianmaria Zamagni's research interests have ranged from the theology of religions and world ethics (Hans Küng) to medieval biblical hermeneutics (particularly in Nicholas of Lyra and John Wyclif) to the theological-political concept of the “End of the Constantinian Era”. Subsequent developments have concerned or still relate to the legitimisation of war and violence, the theology of peace, the event and legacy of the Second Vatican Council, and the topic of security in Stefan Zweig and in the Judeo-Christian theology.
