Circulating cells & signaling
Descrizione
This module essentially consists of the two main topics, hematology and endocrinology.
The Circulating cells part of the module encompasses malignant and non-malignant hematology. The malignant part is dedicated to the pathogenesis and treatment of acute and chronic leukemia, lymphomas myeloma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and myelodysplastic syndromes. In the non-malignant part, differential diagnosis and treatment of blood cell disorders such as anemias and thrombocytopenia as well as coagulation disorders and transfusion medicine will be addressed. The topics will be presented in frontal lectures and discussed in more details along case discussions. During the clinical days, students will have the possibility to see hematological patients in the out- and inpatient wards and discuss the cases with their tutors.
The Signaling part of the module includes endocrinology, diabology and obesity areas. Over a two-week course, teachers experts in these areas will give students frontal lectures on calcium metabolism and parathyroid diseases, diabetes mellitus type 1 and 2, and hormonal dysfunctions of thyroid, adrenal glands and pituitary. Two multisciplinary lectures focusing on goiter and thyroid cancer, and approach to the patient affected by diabetes, are also included in the semester. Finally, an adequate time will be spent to discuss with the theachers those highly interesting cases that the students face during their clinical days.
