This course explores various contemporary phenomena that are shaping what we know as cinema, including:
- Platform Revolution: Examine how digital platforms such as Netflix, YouTube and TikTok are reshaping cinematic and media consumption.
- AI & Data-Driven Storytelling: Explore the role of algorithms, machine learning and generative AI in content creation, recommendation systems, and personalized viewing experiences.
- Expanded Exhibition Sites: Investigate cinema beyond the movie theatre—into gaming environments, museums, public and urban spaces, and virtual/augmented realities.
- Economic & Environmental Impacts: Critically assess the sustainability challenges of data-centers, streaming infrastructures and digital supply chains, alongside new economic models for media production and funding.
- Creative & Institutional Innovation: Understand how media professionals, cultural institutions and emerging creative practices adapt to shifting industry dynamics and social imperatives.

The purpose of this course is to prepare students to understand and engage with forces reshaping the cinematic and audiovisual landscape. Students will explore how technological innovation and cultural shifts are revolutionizing traditional screen media, creating new forms of storytelling, and reshaping entertainment and communication platforms.

Modalità d’esame
There will be a multiple choice midterm exam and a final exam. Assignments during the semester will include a combination of short reflections, exercises and presentations.
