Biography
Mauro Prevostini received his Master degree in Electrical Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH - Zurich) at the Department of Biomedical Engineering in 1994. Topic of the Thesis: "On-Line Recognition of Masticatory Muscles Activity with Long-Time EMG Recorder". Until 1997 he worked as network analyst in the banking domain.
From 1997 to 2001 he lead the test and integration team of The Fantastic Corporation, a startup company developing software solutions for the broadband domain. Since October 2001 he is working at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) where he managed the project for the creation of the Faculty of Informatics (www.inf.usi.ch) from 2001 to 2004.
From 2001 to 2018 he was staff member of the ALaRI institute at USI (www.alari.ch).
Since 2004 he is the Program Manager of the Faculty of Informatics.
From 2005 to 2014 he was member of the UMES Programme Committee of the Forum on specification and Design Languages (FDL - www.ecsi.org/fdl) of the European Electronic Chips and Systems design Initiative (ECSI - www.ecsi.org).
In 2012 he co-founded a startup company, in the area of Precision Agriculture, spin-off of an R&D project in collaboration with the Faculty of Informatics and the Agroscope research center.
He was elected to the academic senate of USI from 2017 to 2019, and from September 2023 to the present.
Research
Wireless Sensor Networks applied to Precision Agriculture in collaboration with the ALaRI institute in Cyber Physical and Embedded Systems.
