Biography

Luca Piccoli graduated in architecture from the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio, Università̀ della Svizzera italiana. He then pursued his education in urban planning and public space design in Paris. He is currently a PhD candidate at the Institute of History and Theory of Art and Architecture (ISA) as part of the research project Visibility Reclaimed. Experiencing Rome's First Public Museums (1733-1870). An Analysis of Public Audiences in a Transnational Perspective (FNS project no. 100016_212922), directed by Professor Carla Mazzarelli. His dissertation, in joint-supervision with Sapienza Università di Roma (co-supervisor: Professor Chiara Piva), investigates the definition and experience of Rome’s first public museums in the 18th century. He was a fellow at the Swiss Institute in the transdisciplinary program Roma Calling 2024/2025. He was a Visiting Student Researcher at Stanford University (Department of Classics), funded by the SNSF Mobility Grant, from October 2025 to March 2026.
