Biography

Drosos Kourounis is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Computational Science, Università della Svizzera italiana, Lugano, Switzerland, since 2012. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Aristotle Technical University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2000. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering of the University of Ioannina, Greece in 2008. He joined the Department of Energy Resources Engineering of Stanford University in 2009 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate where he worked on optimisation of compositional reservoir flow in porous media.

Research

My current research focuses on the design and implementation of efficient numerical algorithms for simulation and optimization of reliable intercoupled  multi-energy carrier systems. The optimal control problems that arise in this area include optimization of gas flow (OGF), multiperiod optimal power flow (MPOPF),  and energy hub optimization. My past researched involves optimal control problems in compositional flow in porous media, reservoir simulation, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
