Biography
Emiliano Albanese, MD, MPH, PhD, FMH: Full Professor of Public Health, Institute of Public Health (IPH), Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, Università della Svizzera italiana; Associate Professor of Public Mental Health, and director of the WHO Collaborating Center (CC) for Mental Health Research and Training, in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva; member of the Foundation Board of the Swiss School of Public Health+.
Prof. Albanese, Emiliano, holds a Medical Degree with a specialization in Public Health from the University of Milan, a Master’s in Public Health Nutrition from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and a PhD in Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Pavia.
His career spans multiple international institutions, including roles as Post-doctoral Neuroepidemiologist at the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS, Rome), Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London (Institute of Psychiatry), and Senior Scientist at the National Institute on Aging (NIH, Bethesda, USA). He later became Associate Professor of Public Mental Health at the School of Medicine, University of Geneva, where he directs the WHO Collaborating Center for Mental Health Research and Training in the Department of Psychiatry.
His research focuses on public mental health, dementia and brain health, aging, non-communicable and infectious disease epidemiology, evidence synthesis, psychometrics, and public health nutrition. He has extensive experience in teaching and training at undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels, covering epidemiology, public health, evidence-based medicine, mental health, research methods, and scientific writing. He teaches in Switzerland (Ticino, Geneva, and SSPH+ IGC network) as well as in Portugal, Italy, and the UK.
He also holds visiting professor positions at the WHO Collaborating Center for Global Mental Health at the University of Verona, the Lisbon Global Mental Health Institute at NOVA University Lisbon, and the Institute of Global Health at the University of Geneva.
