Advanced Research Methods in Health Communication

Descrizione

This course in survey and experimental research methods is designed for master's students who have had at least one course in research methods at the undergraduate level. The course is meant to serve as a review of concepts and techniques and to provide the student with opportunities to apply those techniques to develop research designs of their own and to gain a critical understanding of reported research. Course topics include: 1) key concepts in the logic of research design—the goals of research, developing a researchable question, translating that question into a research strategy, and selecting an appropriate research design, 2) core technical issues for the design of surveys and experiments, including experimental design, questionnaire design, measurement, sampling, and analyzing data, and 3) reading research reports critically to understand not only what was done and what was found but the logic of the design choices made by the researcher and limitations arising from those choices.
