Energy and Climate Policy for Sustainable Development

The course provides an introduction to the principles of energy economics and to energy and climate policy instruments. The following topics will be covered:  market failures and behavioral anomalies in the energy sector, energy systems for sustainable development, energy demand, economics of energy efficiency, investment analysis, market-based and non-market based energy and climate policy instruments and methods to evaluate them.

Throughout the class, we will combine the course material with insights from current research in energy and climate policy. This combination will enable students to understand the state of scientific literature in the fields of energy and climate policy. Moreover, the course aims to show students how to use concepts learned during the classes in the analysis of energy and climate policy instruments that have been implemented.
