This course offers an overview of the interplay between tourism and international relations. As a transnational activity with political, economic, social, and intercultural dimensions, tourism plays a significant role in shaping global interactions and dynamics in an increasingly connected and interdependent world.Starting with foundational concepts and an examination of key players and recent trends in international relations, the course will then explore how tourism serves as a means for soft diplomacy, international cooperation, development, and the promotion of security and peace. Within this context, the course will address topics such as tourism and visa regulations, security issues including terrorism and tourism, international tourism organizations, governmental and ministerial cultural and touristic initiatives, major events like World Expos, international sports events, art exhibitions, country promotion and tourism flows, cultural promotion, nation branding and tourism.
Obiettivi
The course allows students to: 1) understand the intricate relationship between tourism and international relations, including the primary conceptual and practical issues involved. 2) comprehend the key dynamics in international politics. 3) gain analytical skills to evaluate how international politics can impact and influence tourism, and how tourism can, in turn, affect international politics.

Impostazione pedagogico-didattica
The course is participatory, consisting of formal face-to-face lessons and in-class activities such as group or individual presentations and discussions.
Modalità d’esame
The final assessment will include a written exam (60%), group or individual presentations (20%), and class participation (10%).
A bibliography and required readings will be indicated at the beginning of the course.
