Informatics: Foundations

The course is divided into four main parts:
General Introduction to computer science: historical evolution, hardware, software
Databases: overview of relational databases (MS Access), concepts of XML and markup languages
Data Analysis: basics of the R language with math and economics exercises, Excel
Presentation of Analyses: structured document writing, introduction to LaTeX language
The course materials are based on slides and exercises provided through the e-learning platform. Any additional materials for personal study will be indicated during the course.

The course has a dual purpose: acquiring IT tools useful for tackling the various economic and quantitative disciplines of the academic program, as well as laying the IT foundations for the subsequent professional path.

The assessment is conducted exclusively on a computer at the end of the course and is divided into two parts:
A set of multiple-choice questions covering all presented topics (except sections assigned for reading only)
R exercises of varying complexity to be completed using the RStudio editor
