Descrizione
Planetary Health is an emerging inter- and transdisciplinary field of study that explores the complex interactions between the environment, humans, animals, and all other species. Pressing issues such as climate change, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, food system disruptions, or pollution are all closely related to human actions but also to human health and wellbeing. Therefore, mitigation and adaptation strategies are urgently needed to protect and improve planetary health. This requires effective communication, that resonates with the values of people, communities, and organisations.
This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to Planetary Health and key disciplines involved, placing a strong emphasis on the psychological dimensions of human behaviour. The course will equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to address the complex planetary health problems, communicate about planetary health matters, advocate for planetary health policies and practices, and support communities in being more sustainable.
Throughout the course, students will engage in interactive discussions, case studies, and group projects.
Key topics include:
- The scientific foundations of Planetary Health and its connection to human health
- The role of climate change, air and water pollution, and biodiversity loss in shaping global health outcomes
- Ethics and justice in Planetary Health
- Key psychological concepts relevant to Planetary Health
- Barriers and facilitators to mitigation and adaptation behaviours
- Psychological interventions on the individual and societal levels
- Policy responses and real-world initiatives addressing the Planetary Health crisis
- Communication and advocacy for Planetary Health
