Descrizione

B2 Bootcamp is a 60-hour intensive course that offers students the valuable opportunity to consolidate their English-language skills as independent users. It is focussed particularly on students intending to join the English track of the Bachelor in Economics, but, provided places are available, others are also welcome.

There will be a comprehensive review of both grammar and vocabulary.

Obiettivi

To review and refresh students’ existing knowledge of English in preparation for USI’s internal B2 certification and for the external Cambridge B2 First examination.

To reactivate existing language knowledge prior to embarking on USI’s Bachelor in Economics in English or any of the various English-learning pathways offered at the university.

At the end of the course, students should be able to operate in English as described by the Common European Framework for Reference for Languages:

·         Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field of specialisation.

·         Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party.

·         Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

Modalità di insegnamento

In presenza

Impostazione pedagogico-didattica

This course is taught in person over the course of 10 days. Students are expected to build up their own body of notes and vocabulary, spending time outside the classroom committing new language to memory and practising online as necessary. Homework will be assigned daily, and students are expected to complete it.

In-classroom activities are designed to give students the opportunity to review both grammar and vocabulary for this level, as well as ample practice on the typical Cambridge exam tasks for Reading & Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking.

Modalità d’esame

A course exit test will be given in the second week, covering themes covered in class.  Students will be assessed across all language skills (grammar, listening, writing and speaking).  Students who pass the exit test at 60% or higher and attend a minimum of 80% of the lessons will receive a course completion certificate.

Students proposing to enter the English track of USI’s Bachelor in Economics, and who do not yet have certification at B2 level are offered a Cambridge-style examination in September of their first year to coincide with entry requirements.

Further Cambridge-style B2 and B2+ examinations are organised in January, June and August of each year.
