Scientific Visit Prof. Panayot Vassilevski

This visit project aims at extending and continuing a collaboration started in the past that involved Prof. Krause sabbatical visit to LLNL as well as the summer internship of his student at the time (Patrick Zulian) which was very successful ending up with a publication. The aim of this visit is to build upon that positive experience on a reciprocal manner by having Prof. Vassilevski visit USI and Switzerland and also having his PhD student Austen Nelson visit as well for an extended stay (a la internship way) to work with Prof. Krause's team and in particular with Dr. Zulian and his team. Both, Zulian and Nelson are computational scientists with a strong computer science background. During the visit, we plan to collaborate on a HPC-software project, which will combine theoretical and algorithmic tasks in the design of scalable discretization methods and solvers for partial differential equations as well as discrete networks. The Swiss supercomputing center CSCS, which is in Lugano and wit which the Swiss applicant has a long cooperation history, will be included in this project.
