Biography

Architecture theorist, historian and critic based in Zürich with a Master of Architecture from ETH Zurich and a PhD in Art history from Zurich University. Since 2014 Bideau has taught in Mendrisio at ISA, while now also serving as co-director of the MAS program in history and theory of architecture at ETH Zurich. He was editor of “Werk, Bauen+Wohnen” 1996-2002 and subsequently a research fellow at Internationales Zentrum Kulturwissenschaften in Vienna, before teaching at Cornell and Harvard Universities and Pratt Institute (2007-2017).

In 2016 Bideau co-founded Zentrum Architektur Zürichand where serves as a board member, advisor and occasional curator. He has studied architecture production and the urban condition since 1968, notably in Germany. His contextualisation of the work of O.M. Ungers in West Berlin and Frankfurt, Architektur und symbolisches Kapital, was published in 2011 by Birkhäuser. His most recent research involves the legacy of architecture art historian André Corboz, whose scientific papers and personal library are held by Accademia di architettura ('Fondo Corboz'). Bideau is researcher and chief curator of the  Corboz exhibition at Teatro dell'archittettura in fall/winter of 2022.
