Biography

Lorenzo Barisone is Ph.D. Associate at the Institute of Economics (IdEP) of the Università della Svizzera Italiana. He is Data Scientist and Project Coordinator at the Office of Urban Statistics of the City of Lugano, which is part of the Swiss Conference of Regional Statistical Offices (CORSTAT). His projects have been presented at the Conferences of the Urban Economics Association, London School of Economics and Political Sciences, and Annual Meetings of the Swiss Statistical Society and the Network on Counterfactual Impact Evaluation (NetCIEx) of the European Commission Competence Centre on Microeconomic Evaluation. He is a referee of the Southern Economic Journal. Lorenzo is co-founder of Forum Economia Innovazione, the first Italian public policy incubator. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science in Economics at USI. He has won the 2020 Ticino Banking Association Award for the best master's student of the USI Faculty of Economics.

Research

His main research areas are urban and regional economics, real estate economics, and applied econometrics. His research interests focus on the effect of urban amenities’ distribution on the residential choices of agents. He is also interested in understanding the determinants of income-based residential segregation in cities of advanced economies. Moreover, he is conducting studies on the residential integration of transnational regional economies, analyzing the case study of the 2015 Swiss Franc appreciation and its consequences on the real estate market and residential composition of the areas exposed to the shock.
