Fabrizio Mazzonna

Biography

Fabrizio Mazzonna is Professor in Economics at USI and director of the department of Economics (IdEP). He studied at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where he also received a PhD in Econometrics in 2011. In 2010 he has been visiting researcher at University College of London (UCL). Before joining USI in 2013, he worked as Senior Researcher for the Munich Center of Economics of Ageing (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute in Munich (2011-2012).

Since 2018, he is the director of Center for Economic and Political Research on Aging (CEPRA). Previously he served as scientific director of the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+) Summer School in Public Health Policy, Economics and Management (2015-2019) and academic director of the SSPH+ International Doctoral Courses in Health Economics and Policy (2015-2017). He is in the board, and founding member, of the Swiss Society of Health Economics (SGGOE).

Research

His research interests are in the fields of health and labor economics and applied microeconometrics. His research has mainly focused on aging issues, such as the determinants of health and cognitive depreciation over time. He published articles in international journals on issues related to the effects of retirement and education on cognitive abilities of the elderly. More recently, he has investigated the effect of immigration on native and immigrants' health, the relationship between sleep, health and cognitive abilities and the rapid growth in antidepressants consumption and its consequences on population health.
