Project I: Atelier Bonnet
People
Description
The semester will focus on the progressive mutation of the highway infrastructure connecting Geneva to Montreux on the north side of Lake Geneva. Through a prospective design that might invoke short-term effects of the change in mobility or a long-term hypothesis of reconversion/improvement/disappearance of the infrastructure, the students will suggest what advantages these potential developments could bring to the surrounding land/buildings/landscape/ecosystems.
Objectives
Together with our current ecological challenges, architecture should help to connect a large range of interdependant scales and resources, combining knowledge from building, ecology, landscape and infrastructure design. Territories are deeply altered, and will be even more in the next decades, by climate change and social facts. Architecture should be involved in this tremendous transformation, and suggest solutions that include large dimension topics as well as strategies for efficient smaller actions.
Learning methods
Transcalar interpretation of the territory, culture of infrastructures, milieu and landscape, developping capacity of research in terms of prospective taking profit of different fields, capacity of research and experimentation in the field of Architecture: new scales, tools and temporality. Be precise for material facts and uses as well as be accurate in larger societal scopes, combining analytical capacities and knowledge incrementation together with formal and spatial design alternatives.
