Description

The course will deal with the stylistic and typological evolution of the architecture and art of the ancient State of Milan in the 15th and 16th centuries through an analysis of the most important sacred buildings in the area and the artworks kept in them: above all, the Certosa of Pavia and the cathderals of Milan and Como, whose construction and artistic developments will be one of the main strands of the course. We will also analyze the most relevant artists in Milanese painting, sculpture and architecture of the period, from Bramante and Leonardo to Vincenzo Foppa, Bramantino, Bernardino Luini and Cristoforo Solari. The most important works of art by these protagonists of the Lombard Renaissance will be analyzed both in the Milanese context and in relation to the coeval artistic production of other artists active in Europe and the Italian peninsula.

Objectives

To know the figurative and architectural culture of the territories of the State of Milan in the 15th and early 16th century and to know how to recognise the main peculiarities also in relation to the contemporary European artistic production.
