Description

The course provides the basic knowledge and understanding of sustainable and integrative thinking and action in architecture: its rationale, foundations, and principles, and their application to architecture and design. It will alternate between theoretical classes, guest lectures by international practitioners and researchers, field trips, and practical assignments. As a final task, we will ask each student to define her/his attitude and position in the open field of sustainable design by developing her/his own “Do-it-Yourself Certification System” ‒ a personal value system to measure design projects in terms of sustainable and integrative thinking.

Objectives

The goal of the course is to help students be conscious and responsible in their design projects: to achieve the maximum positive impact on society with the minimum negative impact on the environment.
