Description

Tourism is one of the fastest growing economic activities in the world encompassing increasingly larger parts of the global population. While the concept, approach and practice of sustainable management are nowadays widely acknowledged as essential, there are national, regional and global challenges to be addressed, to ensure that tourism is sustainable and its future growth is decoupling from the use of resources.

The aim of this colloquium is to provide insights and a solid understanding of the inter-dependencies of tourism with other relevant sectors and at the same time identify the challenges and opportunities for the future sustainable development of tourism and its future role in our societies.

International processes such as Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Convention on Biological Diversity as well as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction will be analyzed and discussed in their respective relevance for the tourism sector together with other global initiatives.
