Project I: Atelier Collomb

The didactic offer of the atelier TERRITORIO for the fall semester consists of the collaboration of 4 design ateliers sharing the aggregate resources of Professors Arnaboldi, Bonnet, Collomb, and Nunes-Gomes, who deal with large scale in the same geographic area: Lake Geneva, and more precisely around the largest lake in Western Europe that the Rhone has extended when it takes the direction of the Mediterranean by sweeping over the Alps. We propose, as in previous years, four ateliers that, while maintaining their specificity and teaching autonomy, bring together knowledge of this area by starting the semester with a common path. To walk, to discover, to reflect, to gather everyone's experience and knowledge to reconnect physically with the space, is also to reclaim time, before releasing individually into the adventure of the project.

The goal of this atelier is to show that architecture is interdisciplinary. Where different scales, landscape, urbanism are taken into consideration and allows the student to see how the architect works in this contemporary world. The approach of drawing, studying maps, territory via study trip, models, with scale and materials chosen according to the project, will guide the student along this atelier.

Analyses will be advanced with the tools deemed necessary and most specific to the type of research being addressed, e.g.: spatial scale model or/and detailed scale, graphic tables, topographic surveys, material samples, photomontages, data retrieval, public consultation, etc.    

The work of the students will be presented in two main reviews: The midterm review and the final review. It is a time of confrontation of the student with the professor and the guests. The work of the student along the semester is also taken in consideration in the decision of the grade.
