Description
At the end of the course, students should understand the theoretical knowledge of the concepts of accountability and why it is essential for public administrations globally. To encourage students to apply accountability values, standards, and tools within public organizations.
Objectives
The concept of accountability is a central aspect of the management and communication functions of modern public sector institutions. It represents a cornerstone of developing efficient, effective, and democratic organizations. The need to clear accountability for decisions taken and a solid evaluation of the performance of public institutions is abundantly evident in the current pandemic. In this course, students will be exposed to the contemporary concepts, tools (social reporting and sustainability reporting), and international experience of accountability, why it is essential for modern public administrations, and how policymakers
and civil servants who work in public organizations be held accountable to citizens and stakeholders.

Learning methods
The course is structured as a flipped classroom in which a blended learning approach, face-to-face interaction, is mixed and supported with an independent study via technology. 7 lessons of 4 hours will switch between class and online sessions. Guest speakers will intervene in this course. During both sessions, analysis of case studies and group activities will occur regularly; students are encouraged to ask and present their opinions on particular issues. Class participation is essential to develop a comprehensive overview of the course’s contents.
Examination information
The final evaluation will be determined: 10% Class participation,20% Class presentation (group activity), and 70% Final individual paper.
