Biography

Massimiliano Vatiero (PhD, University of Siena) has been a member of the Law Institute at USI (IDUSI) since 2010. Between 2010 and 2018, he held "Brenno Galli" Chair of Law and Economics at USI.

Dr. Vatiero’s research interests are Law and Economics, Corporate Governance, Economics of Institutions. In 2014, he completed a project, financed by Swiss National Science Foundation and titled “Institutional complementarities among corporate ownership, employment protection and innovation: The Swiss case”.

Dr. Vatiero was visiting scholar at Chicago Kent College of Law (Fall, 2009), visiting assistant professor at the Institute of Law and Economics - Hamburg (Fall, 2012), and visiting researcher at Harvard Law School (Fall, 2013; and Fall 2014).

Research

Massimiliano Vatiero was visiting scholar at Chicago Kent College of Law for the Spring-term 2009, visiting assistant professor at the Institute of Law and Economics - Hamburg for the Fall-term 2012, visiting researcher at Harvard Law School for the the Fall-term 2013 and for the Fall-term 2014.

Vatiero works mainly on law and economics, contract theory, corporate governance, and institutional economics.

His publications have appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Kyklos, Journal of Economic Surveys, History of Political Economy ,European Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of Institutional Economics, and Journal of Economic Issues; and in international volumes such as the Oxford Handbook of Corporate Law and Governance. 

He is a member of a founding member and secretary of Italian Society of Law and Economics (SIDE), and a founding member and elected council member of World Interdisciplinary Network for the Institutional Research (WINIR).
