Biography
Ph.D. in Political Theory and Public Affairs (University of Roma Tre, 2011), he is currently Post-doc Research Fellow and Lecturer at Università della Svizzera Italiana, where he teaches the courses of Political Communication and Fundamentals of Public Communication.
He is also Professor of Politics at IES Abroad Rome, where he teaches classes of Political Theory and Italian and European politics. He was a Visiting Fellow at Yale University (New Haven, CT), at Aarhus Universitet (Denmark), at the GovLab (US), at the American University (Washington DC), and at the Newberry Library of Chicago.
He has around 18 years of research and teaching experience in various universities and research centers in Europe and America.
Expert in the field of open government and political processes (in particular on lobbying, public affairs and political innovation, topics on which he regularly speaks in international conferences), with a solid background in methodology and philosophy.
He has experience as a leader of various international research groups and coordinator of different civic, social, and political projects.
He is Editor-in-Chief of the Palgrave Encyclopedia of Interest Groups, Lobbying and Public Affairs.
His works have appeared in various peer-reviewed journals (Journal of Public Affairs, ComPol, Italian Political Science Review/Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica, European Journal of Communication, Rivista Italiana di Politiche Pubbliche, Contemporary Italian Politics, Diritto Pubblico Comparato ed Europeo, Rivista di Politica) and as book chapters in international volumes.
Trying to bridge the gap between academic research and policy action, Dr. Bitonti provides advice to a variety of NGOs, firms and governments, and works with various organizations promoting open government and innovation in the political world.
