Vittorio Limongelli

Professor Limongelli took his Master Degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at University of Napoli "Federico II" (Italy) in 2004, qualification to job practice as Pharmacist in 2004, and took at the same university his PhD degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2007. During those years, his research was focused on standard computational methodologies (e. g. molecular docking, homology modeling) applied to the study of systems of biopharmaceutical interest. In 2007 he was visiting PhD first at University of Bologna (Italy) and then at ETH Zurich (Switzerland). Here he did his PostDoc working in the field of enhanced sampling simulations used to study rare events in biosystems with a special focus on molecular binding processes. In December 2010 he got a permanent position as Researcher at the University of Naples "Federico II" (Italy) and in 2014 he got the qualification to function as Associate Professor in Italian Universities. In 2015 he moved back to Switzerland as Senior Assistant Professor at USI Lugano (Switzerland). In 2013 He was awarded the “Premio Scrocco” conferred by the Division of Theoretical and Computational Chemistry of the Italian Chemical Society for his original contribution to the study of biological phenomena by applying advanced computational methods, in 2016 he received the Young Researcher in Medicinal Chemistry award from the French Medicinal Chemistry Society and in 2017 the award as a most meritorious runner-up of the EFMC (the European Federation of Medicinal Chemistry) Prize for a Young Medicinal Chemist in Academia. He is author of more than 40 publications, many of them on high impact scientific journals such as PNAS, JACS, Angewandte Chemie and Nucleic Acids Research.
