Abstract
A bas-relief in the Marciana, attributed to the School of Sansovino, shows Prometheus, equipped with wings, intent on animating the first man with a celestial torch. This unusual attribute, diverging from tradition, suggests analysing the panorama of nearby artistic production on mythological subjects and dwelling on Zelotti’s frescoes in two Palladian villas. In this reincarnation, spread in a particular historical and geographical context, Prometheus is crystallised with the ornamentation of wings. While the theme remains the same, the innovative movement emphasises a new semantic rhythm, originating from the iconographic overlap with Time.
