Abstract
This article assembles and discusses the use of technical terms from the fields of grammar, linguistics and stylistics in twentieth-century Italian art criticism. The aim is to characterise the purposes and effects of transposition through a number of key linguistic and stylistic points. The examined corpus is limited to established models such as Roberto Longhi and Cesare Brandi, and, in the context of amateurs, to poets attributable to Hermeticism on one hand and Montale and Solmi on the other.
