Description
For the 2025-2026 academic year, the course will focus on topics in the history of art and architecture in the regions of Italian-speaking Switzerland and neighboring areas of northern Italy, with particular attention to the so-called Lake Region. Emblematic contexts and monuments - some lesser-known - will be analyzed to highlight the historical and artistic richness of this cross-border area. Covering a broad chronological span, from Late Antiquity to the contemporary age, the course will emphasize continuity, transformation and local specificities. Its aim is to provide critical tools to understand the interactions between art, architecture, territory and society in a region that has long been a crossroads of cultural exchange and influence.
Objectives
To broaden and deepen the knowledge of students enrolled in the Master's program in History and Theory of Art and Architecture through the exploration of selected topics in art and architectural history that are particularly relevant for a critical understanding of European and local cultural heritage. The course is characterized by a dynamic and participatory teaching approach that seeks to go beyond the classroom setting in order to promote experiential, field-based learning. These activities aim not only to strengthen theoretical knowledge, but also to foster direct observation, critical analysis, and interdisciplinary reflection, encouraging active and informed student participation.
