We are living in a screen-dominated era, where entertainment, communication, and even our sense of reality are mediated through digital platforms. This course investigates:
- How digital platforms like Netflix, YouTube, and TikTok are reshaping cinematic and media consumption
- The role of AI, algorithms, and data-driven storytelling in the evolution of screen media
- The expansion of media experiences beyond the cinema—into gaming, social media, and public spaces
- The economic and environmental challenges of digital media infrastructures
- The impact of emerging technologies on creative industries, media professionals, and cultural institutions
By engaging with contemporary examples, students will develop a critical framework to understand the future of cinema and media and their impact on industry, culture, and society.

The course involves weekly screenings, discussions of readings, and a final analytical essay.
Modalità d’esame
Students undertake a written research essay, or a research-creation project directly pertaining to the theoretical and creative work discussed in this class. A video essay is one example of a research-creation project; other creative outcomes are possible and can be discussed with the professor taking an oral exam.
