The doctoral school at AAM

The Accademia di architettura in Mendrisio intends to establish a doctoral school in architecture. Our aim is for this school to be the pivot through which to structure the debate within the faculty, articulate and present the research carried out at Mendrisio. This dual objective will be achieved through the alliance of the two institutes (ISA, Institute for the History and Theory of Art and Architecture, and ISUP, Institute of Urban and Landscape Studies) in the management of the courses and seminars on offer. The training offer, which is mainly open to the roughly three dozen doctoral students of our faculty but also to other external interested parties, will include two compulsory public intermediate thesis discussions, and a series of methodological seminars, a writing seminar, digital literacy courses, informal meetings between doctoral students, and coverage of expenses for attending external events. This additional offer will improve the skills of doctoral students and the quality of supervision, taking advantage of the wide range of expertise of researchers at the Accademia. In addition, the Doctoral School will collaborate with other USI faculties (in particular the Faculty for Communication, Culture and Society) by mutually sharing course offers.
