Biography
He is Professor of Economic Statistics at the Faculty of Economics of the Catholic University, of Rome. He graduated in Statistics at the University La Sapienza in Rome with honors and received his PhD at the University of Cambridge (UK). He was Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Trento, Professor of Economic Statistics at the University of Padua, Professor of Statistics at the University "G. d'Annunzio" of Pescara as well as Visiting Professor of several universities including the 'University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), the University of Cambridge (UK), the University of Texas at Dallas, the University Federal do Ceara in Fortaleza (BR), the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champain , New York University and the Université Panthéon Assas, Paris II. Since July 2014 he is Honorary Research Professor at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg (Virginia).
His research is concentrated on Spatial Statistics and Spatial Econometrics. On this subject he published four books (for Palgrave-Macmillan, Kluwer, Springer-Verlag and CEDAM) 8 book chapters and more than 150 articles (43 on ISI Thompson listed journals with impact factor. 15 in the last five years; Average impact factor = 1.23. Index Hirsch as of June 2015 = 23).
He is a member of the editorial board of the journals "Empirical Economics" and "Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences".
Since 2006 he is the Chairman of the Spatial Econometrics Association. He is also a member of different scientific societies among which International Statistical Institute, the American Statistical Association, the Royal Statistical Society, Regional Science and Association and the Italian Statistical Society. He is the Director of the Spatial Econometrics Advanced Institute.
At the University "D'Annunzio" of Pescara he has been Director of the Department of Science, Business and Statistics (2003-2006), President of the BA course in "Environmental Economics" (1999-2004), Member of the Evaluation Committee (2000-2003) Member of the Board of Directors (2006-2009) and coordinator of various PhD programs from 2004 to 2005 and from 2009 to 2011.
He also published a collection of short novels and two volumes of plays including "La fin du Millenaire", staged in 2008 for the first time at the Teatro La Foce of Lugano. He also wrote different theatre adaptations and performed some of them as an actor and as a director.
