Descrizione

The course represents a natural extension of the course Tourism Economics. It provides the fundamental theoretical aspects necessary to understand the relationship between tourism and the evolution of the destination’s economy.
In particular, the first part of the course will analyze the impact that tourism has on the economy, highlighting the relevant economic facts linked to international tourism and studying how they affect income and employment levels in the local economy. The central part of this course will be dedicated to State intervention and the public organization of tourism with particular reference to the concepts of market failures, externalities, and public goods. In the last part, the focus will be on the detailed analysis and the key issues of the complex relationship between tourism and sustainability dimensions.
On the completion of this course, students will understand:
• The key role of tourism as an engine of local development.
